Where it all began:
During the summer of 2015, John Downing had the incredible opportunity to travel on a mission trip to Harare, Zimbabwe. The trip was an amazing opportunity of growth and service. But with four hours left before he was scheduled to board the plane home, he had yet to find something beyond the friends and relationships that he had built that was calling him to return to the beautiful country. Four hours was enough time to awaken a new passion inside of him, one that sparked the desire to create a new form of outreach and mission by combining two of the biggest passions in his life. LIFT4LIFE began in those four hours as he stumbled upon a door in the back of a community center after hearing the faint, yet distinct noise of lifting plates clanging against an iron bar.
Raising funds to provide nutritional and strength training curriculum, resources, and equipment for low-income and at risk communities around the world.
LIFT4LIFE plans to acquire and develop space capable of being used to train the power lifts in an effort to create a thriving powerlifting community through cultivating leadership, fellowship, and discipleship. Ultimately, we hope to create a sustainable powerlifting federation within each country that we develop a partnership.
